Hand-building Classes

Tailored just for you and your people...

Choose from a range of beginner projects, or if you have experience - make what you can using premium hand-building clays.
Classes at Forest Road Studio are small and slow, emphasis is placed on switching off and slowing down.

Class groups are organised by you, bring your friends, family, colleagues or you can even opt for a private one-on-one session.

Class inclusions

  • 2 hours in our quiet country studio

  • premium hand-building clay

  • underglaze colours, tools, stamps, cutters and other studio implements used for decoration

  • hand-building demonstrations and guidance on your beginner project

  • a choice of 1-2 small beginner pinch or coil projects, with colour and texture added, time permitting.

  • use of aprons/towels

  • tea/coffee

  • 2 x firings in our kiln 'Bessie'

  • preparation of your work for glazing

  • a clear coat of glaze applied to your piece

Your work will be available for collection 6-8 weeks from the class​

Stay a little longer with a workshop at Forest Road Studio

Workshops

Forest Road Workshops are 3.5 hours and can be held in the morning, afternoon or evening - whatever suits.

Workshops are a great opportunity to spend a little longer here in our quiet country studio, taking time to really relax and explore your creativity.
Workshops are hand building a Mug/Vase or similar, or you can discuss with me your idea prior to your workshop. To enable ease and flow during the workshops all participants will be making similar items.

Workshops are 3.5 hours duration, and include some light refreshments. With plenty of time to work on your pieces, enjoy the peaceful surrounds, and embrace your own unique creativity.

Studio Regulars

Studio Regulars is for Forest Road Studio Guests who have already attended a class or workshop and want to explore with freedom

Access to our pottery studio in the Adelaide Hills is just the start, participants can choose 6 x 2 hour sessions per term to work at their own pace on a variety of small projects (some limitations apply due to the size of Bessie the Kiln, her firing temperature and her energy levels!). A pay as you go option will also be available, for those who wish to attend on a casual basis.

Studio Regulars is perfect for those who are happy to work away at their own leisure, with minimal input from Megan in terms of tuition. If you prefer more guidance, have a look at the NEW 6 week hand-building course below.

Included in the 6 week commitment is access to the studio during set times (to be determined), access to the studio's wide selection of tools and materials to help you with your creations, use of underlglaze colours and clear glaze.

Additional charges include 
- clay (Megan has a list of clays that you can select from, that fit the clear glaze used at Forest Road Studio)
- firing of your work (charged by weight and volume)
- coloured glazes*
